A few words about our adventure ...
Syrrako and Kalarrytes, the "twin noble villages" of Tzoumerka are undoubtedly the most impressive villages in the area. Syrrako, built at 1,150m on the slope of Mount Lakmos hangs literally above the impressive ravine of the river Chrousia! Kalarrytes on the other hand, built directly opposite, on the slope of Pouliana at 1,200m, overlook the magnificent view of the surrounding peaks. Although the villages seem close, they are separated by the steep ravine of the Kalarrytikos River. These historic villages retain the traditional Epirus architecture with stone houses and slate roofs.
Hiking Syrrako - Kalarrytes follows a walkable path that leads us to the bottom of the ravine. From there we ascend again to Syrrako. In this beautiful natural environment, we are given the opportunity to admire the biodiversity of the area. Where the sun hardly discovers us, in the Gorge of Chrousia, we walk in the footsteps of the ancient Sells and learn about the trade routes of the caravans, about the roads that led to the world of East and West, where the merchants of Epirus carried the fragrant cap and the unique textiles of Syrrako and Kalarryta.
Prerequisites:
- You do NOT need to have previous experience.
- It is a route suitable for children as well. (6 years +)
- It requires basic physical condition and love for nature.
