A few words about the gorge of Agali…
It is one of the most beautiful gorges of central Evia! It climbs to the top of Dirfyos, passing through many, small, but remarkable habitats. The total length of the gorge reaches 6 km. Characteristic is the rich vegetation that includes: Aleppo pines, shrubs (holly, oregano, thyme, rosemary, etc.), age-old plane trees, lindens, rowan, sorghum, oak, maple and chestnut, rare flowers. At the highest, a Kefalonian fir forest begins.
The longest length of the gorge runs through a stream, which forms beautiful lakes and waterfalls. Its waters originate from the springs Arkoudovrisi and Kriovrisi, which are the mainsprings of the river Messapi.
The name "Agali", the locals say comes from "agali" as in the many narrow and uphill places, walkers are forced to walk slowly.
