Hiking in Piana and Limbovisi of Mainalos, Peloponnese
Activity Description
It is one of the most beautiful routes of Mainalos that connects three historic settlements of mountainous Arcadia. The route starts from the traditional settlement of Piana, whose name is associated with the mythical god Pan and is located at an altitude of 1,080m.
A short distance from the village is the cave of "Pana" where the local legend wants the raven-legged God with his flute to flood the ravines and mountains of Mainalo with sounds. The landscape is bucolic and the visitor can enjoy the open horizon and the magnificent view offered by the location, towards the mountain ranges of Mainalos and other mountainous masses of the Peloponnese. The course continues (with small demanding points) to the shady Lykorema which ends in the Elissona river and then to the abandoned prehistoric Arkoudorema (mountainous settlement of Arcadia in the ravine of the Mainali Mountains). The changes in the landscape are continuous and the natural beauties immediately conquer the hiker "who simply does not want the route to end".
Due to the inaccessibility of the location, the area flourished during the years of the Turkish occupation and became the center of Kleftouria. An important monument of the area is the small church of Panagia Arkoudorema, which has been classified as a preserved monument and is one of the most sacred places in Arcadia, as it is believed that in ancient times it was related to cults between them and the priestess Callistos. The historical settlement of Limbovisi is the last stop on the walking route. This is the birthplace of the Kolokotroni family with the surrounding area having been reshaped and there is a restored copy of the old house of Theodoros Kolokotronis, which today functions as a museum of the Greek Revolution.

Conditions:
- It is aimed at people with hiking experience. Not for complete beginners.
- For your participation in the activity, a vaccination certificate or disease certificate, or a negative PCR or Rapid test (conducted within the last 24 hours) is required. For children, the certificate they make for their school is sufficient. Mandatory use of a mask when traveling in passenger cars, etc. Distances when browsing at least 1.5 meters.
