A Two-Day Hiking Adventure in Taygetos & Summit Ascent 21-22/9

Ascent to the top of Taygetus to the prophet Elias.

Excursion to the highest mountain of the Peloponnese and one of the most beautiful in Greece, Taygetos.

History of culture and adventure.

Our activity starts on Saturday morning with Mystras as the first stop.

Perched on the slope of Taygetos, 5 km. from the city of Sparta, is Mystras, the ruined Byzantine state, silently gazing at the city of Sparta.

In a labyrinth of stone streets that lead us to beautiful Byzantine churches with unique architecture, Byzantine coats of arms and amazing frescoes, we will walk and get to know a unique place that, during its heyday, was the spiritual and cultural center of the region and gathered sages, artists and scholars.

Next destination, the Olive and Greek Oil Museum. This original museum will take us on a journey through the history of the olive and olive oil, the production methods, the particularities and their multifaceted importance for the economy and the diet of the Greeks.

And since we completed the cultural side of the day, let's go burn some calories,

The destination is the Magganiari springs and hiking to the shelter of Parnonas.

The route from the Magganiari source to the shelter is 1 hour and 30 minutes, with an altitude difference of 570 m.

The path is very passable and is in the shadow of the mountain forest of black pines. It runs with a slight incline through the forest and leads to the spring of Tripoda, which gives its name to the entire slope, about halfway along the route. From this point the slope increases and higher up the path intersects with the European path E4 of the route Katafygio-Lakkomata-Anavrytis.

Arrival at the lodge with rest and dinner as our next hike which is the climb to the top of Prophet Elias requires us to get out of our beds at 02:30 on Sunday morning.

As soon as we reach the top (dawn) we will enjoy the unique phenomenon of the pyramid that makes its appearance at sunrise in the Laconian gulf.

Taygetos is the highest mountain of the Peloponnese with a height of 2,405 meters but also an impressive length that exceeds 100 km!!!

The ridge of Taygetos is one of the longest alpine routes in the country. The peak of Taygetus is called Prophet Elias and is known as one of the largest natural pyramids in the world. Every summer on the feast of the Prophet Elias, hundreds of visitors climb to the top, to visit the small church and see the shadow of the pyramid that falls on the sea at sunrise.

On Sunday morning we will climb to the top of Taygetus in order to enjoy the incredible goddess of the phenomenon of the Pyramid that takes place in the sunrise or sunset of the Sun.

With the completion of the descent and being full from a rich two days we will take the road back
